The new gym will offer people with cancer the opportunity to carry out personalised physical activities supervised by experts, aimed at improving cardiovascular capacity, strength and coordination.

This holistic approach aims not only to optimise fitness, but also to prevent diseases associated with sedentary lifestyles and promote a more active lifestyle in this demographic.

Cancer is a major health challenge, being one of the main causes of mortality both worldwide and in the Basque Country. Despite the continuous growth in its incidence, there have been encouraging advances in survival rates in recent decades.

In 2023, Álava recorded 2,206 new cases of cancer, with a 20% increase in incidence over the last decade. Despite this, survival rates have improved, reaching 56%. The Álava Cancer Association aims to achieve a 70% survival rate by 2030 and offers free services to support those affected.

Miren Bilbao, president of the association, emphasizes the commitment to improving the quality of life of patients and their families. The opening of a new specialized exercise center will be crucial in improving the health of beneficiaries and potentially increasing their chances of survival.

For oncology physical exercise sessions, participants will have access to a fully equipped gym with the necessary machines provided by the renowned Álava-based company BH Fitness, including: Leg press, Pulley machine, Chest press, Stationary bicycles, TRX equipment.
